Yes, a mate of mine has just done this - The headlight units are all in one so just remove old ones and buy new ones from BMW.

I *think* he said the lights were about £500, but i might be mishtaken.

Mate of mine fitted an OE Bosch set, about £300 onto his 97 540.

They look fantastic.

He is "numbnuts" on pistonheads, I am sure he will tell you where he got them if you send a message.

The DIY ebay kits are a real pain in the arse to fit well - you have to open up the sealed light units and hope you can seal them back up again well!

Can't help but think that after spending the cash on an M5 another few hundred quid isn't going to be a waste.

The Bosch and Hella ones don't look quite standard to my eyes, although slightly cheaper, I seem to recall them having an almost 'crystal' finish.

IVE FITTED ANGLE EYES TO MY E39 97 MODEL BUT I FITTED THE COMPLETE HEADLAMPS PRETTY STRAIGHT FOWARD,
YOU MIGHT HAVE TO BEND THE AIR CON PIPE SLIGHTLY ON THE DRIVERS SIDE BECAUSE IT JUST TOUCHES THE LAMP.
I BOUGHT MY LAMPS FOR £300 ISH.
YOU MIGHT HAVE TO GET THE WIRING CHANGED SLIGHTLY AS I DID ON MINE BUT IT ONLY COST £20 FROM LOCAL AUTO ELECTRICIAN I USE.
HOPE THIS HELPS.
