320d or 330d ?
Discussion
I had a 530D auto, which was stupidly fast (good for 140mph) and returned over 12k an average of 33.2mpg. In the 3 series its likely to be an even better bet. Residuals are on par with each other i think, though 330 is heavier on fuel and insurance. Either with the AMD engine management upgrade will be even faster and economical ref: BMW CAR JAN 2004. watch out for high milers though.

330 without a doubt
Auto or manula is up to you , auto makes for a very smooth car, manual can take a lot of cog swapping.
I prefer manual personally.
oh, and chips with everything.......
And I'm waiting for the 330d Coupe which is due in March ......... :cantwaittogethishandsonone:

I'm on my 3rd 330d Sport! I had two in 2000 and 2002, and was then seduced by an E39 M5! However, at 19mpg average, and doing 25-30k miles per annum, the M5 had to go! But, and it's a big BUT, I now have the latest 6spd 204 bhp version. It's fantastic.
The 320d isn't far behind though. Again, they have 6spd boxes now, and 150bhp. They just lack a little refinement and the un-diesel like noise of the 330.
Try both. I'm averaging a combined 38.8 mpg in mine. The Autocar figure is about 40 mpg, so I'm happy.
