Why is BMW so hung up with 'i'

Why do BMW insist on telling everyone that their 3, 5, 6 and 7 series petrol cars have injection engines? I would have thought that this became an irrelevance over the previous decade? Just think how much they could save on smaller plastic badges by dropping off the 'i'?????????

Also why are all the models in the new 5 series brochure designated SE? In the old days you could get Special Equipment models but also not. If they are all now SE what's the point in saying so?
