Hello

Over the last day I have been considering buying a 1999 V reg M5.

The car has done 65000 miles and has a full Altwood BMW service history. The car is for sale at 22995 and seems to me to be good value.

I know Derestrictor has purchased one recently, and I have had similar car experiences as him in the past, but what things should I be aware of when buying one of these?

Thanks

First, ensure that it is very late of an eve or even better, pre-cat burglar on a Sunday morn.

Then, proceed to the nearest non-urban, untrafficked ribbon of tarmac and ease you way to about 120.

Familiarise yourself with the cabin ambience, arhitecture and ergonomics and be sure to derive great joy from the gently glowing cog stirring device to your left. Fondle it.

Notice the variation in resonant frequencies as the pipes are variously stroked: a mild whisper of hused puppy yields a suggestion of Viking pillage, whilst a 6th-5th lobbing of automotive Tennants Pilnser yobbism surely forewarns of imminent Danish rape - with an intoxicating yelp of wounded wolf hound.

The Gods will be on your side, too as the thundering axe-frenzy of several hundred belligerent Goths pound resolutely into a focussed state of veloceraptic grace.

Utter, utter joy.

The only question to consider is not, should I buy one; rather - is my best friend the proprietor of a chain of Shell petrol stations?

You see, it's just a tad thirsty...

(Alternatively simply drive through the limiter - in 5th - listening to Bomber by Motorhead at 11 - an irresistable blend of metallic cacophonyism.)

Marvellous.

God save Kaiser Willheim.
