6 Series Sold Out

...almost. On sale early next year

BMW's return to the large coupe market after 14 years has been a sell-out in the UK.

Buyers ordering a car now will have to wait until 2005. Nearly all the first year's 6 Series allocation of 1,700 have been sold, some four months before deliveries start in spring 2004.

The 645Ci goes on sale in March when it will be joined by a soft-top version, which makes its public debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month.

BMW expects about 1,000 buyers a year for the convertible.

The 645Ci costs £49,855 from with a six-speed manual gearbox. An automatic ‘box adds £1,350 and a sequential manual gearchange (SMG) is £880.

It's already on the streets

(my own pictures, taken on November, 4th)

Wasn't the 8' Series a large coupe too, or is that already 14 years old now?

If it's all sold out, who wants to buy my convertible? The order form says that I am #1 on the list at my dealer.

Sounds like the best idea is to take delivery and speak to Tom Hartley the premium king!

Tom Hartley not interested. I think the premium market for anything is pretty shot at the moment. I hear that it is not great for Lambos and Bentleys also.

Wow - did Tom just turn your car down outright? Must be a very rough market for premium cars. Hopefully means supercars will get a bit cheaper??!!

Time of year thats all... also Tom will wait on something like a BMW make sure there is a premium to be had. Its obvious on things like the Lambo, but sometimes a bit hit and miss with BMWs, Mercs etc...

I think there will be a premium, maybe only small. You would at least get your money back... It is THAT good i can assure you...

Adam

I think you're right on BMW's/Mercs and the time of year - look how much SL55 prices are hit at the moment.

I did'nt order the 6 series cab to job on and would'nt bother taking delivery unless I could'nt back out.

WRT Lambo's look at Verdi only wanting a £10k premium on a Gallardo due end of Feb. Taking into account the dealer margin even these monsters may not offer punters a turn.

I have only ever earned a profit on one car in my life. That was'nt intentional when I ordered it and its probably the best way to keep it!
