Problem with my 1990 525i. Driving home last night and car just died. Won't start and absolutely no power coming through the system - nothing works interior light, hazards, engine lights etc. Just had a replacement battery about 3 months ago and no signs of problems until it cut out. Any ideas?

Has the trip switch below the spare tyre in the boot popped out? Have the battery connections worked loose? Other than that you need an auto electrician with a voltmeter.

Battery connections are fine. Wasn't aware of the trip switch in the rear. Is that some sort of safety switch?

Cuts the electrics out in the event of a crash.

Check the alternator. If that is fecked you will drain the battery down to nothing.

Thanks for your replies. Turns out the problem was caused by a linkable fuse beside the battery terminal. Once this pops then cuts all power. 50p to replace - woo-and-indeed-hoo!
