When i bought my car, it had a big hole where the stereo should have been...

So, i bought a new (well, nearly new) stereo today to put in. Took it round to a mates, who knows a little bit about a little bit, for him to fit it for me.

Trouble is, Mr Previous Owner must have been a complete max muppet, as the wiring is absolutley crap. Its all red into blue into green spliced into purple and all that rubbish.

So, a minefield.

Thus, my mate disconnected a few things to make it easier... max muppet had 52 subs and 16 amps by the looks.

But, now, it was decided to leave well alone and call in a few favours from someone who really knows their stuff.

Trouble is, ive lost my:

Rev Counter
Economter
Interior Lights
and

Remote Central Locking.

any ideas?

You need to get a good and i mean good auto electrician to sort out your car. Sterio installations are quite simple, but if a muppet as you put it has been mucking around with things then you need to get all the wiring that he has fiddled with sorted out. If you live near Sutton/Croydon i know a good Sterio installer who could fix that up install the sterio and not charge you a massive amount.

most decent alarm fitters should be able to sort you out.

Ah! Could it have been an aftermarket alarm which was removed as well?

That could explain the non-functioning interior lights (used for door open detection), central locking (remote central locking), rev counter (maybe used for engine running detection [if you're a total muppet!]), econometer (tied in with rev counter somehow)

Trip to a man with a multimeter and a wiring guide needed!

Probably either a Fuse, positive or earth.. was the Stereo spliced into the Main positive dashboard feed by any chance..? ..if so has your mate accidentally disconnected it in removing the spagetti wiring..? Alternatively if in his findings he touched a couple of bare wires togather accidentally you may well have a blown fuse.

Cheers
matt.
