Air bag removal

I'm trying to remove the driver’s side air bag from my 1997 318is, so that i can have the lock barrel repaired.

Has anybody got any idea if the air bag has to be disarmed before disconnection, or can you just disconnect. I have already undone the air bag to reveal the wiring, also, not quite sure how it disconnects, it has some strange connectors, any ideas on how to disconnect would also be useful.

When i removed my airbag, just disconnected connector, wait for 10 mins for any capacitance to discharge from circuit then removed without incident....Hope this helps........
