E46 front indicators - how to remove?

I've recently bought some clear indicators for my E46 3 series.

Can anyone explain how to remove the existing front lenses? The instructions in the handbook are very vague. They say something about inserting a screwdriver into the hole in the wing behind the indicator, and moving a retaining clip. I've had a go, but can't really tell which bit should move, and in which direction. Any ideas?

I think, if you look into the gap there is a crosshead screw. If you slacken this it should come a bit looser, then you can push the indicator out from the back?
