Hello BMW people!

Just got back from buying my first RWD car! Ended up with an e30 318 iS which i like very much!

Im sure i'll have loads of questions such as: how can i fix my sunroof? and cambelt changes?

I love it already!

MrF

P.S. Its nowhere near as good as Iguanas, but a start!

Sunroofs I know nowt about, but AFAIK there is no cam belt, just a timing chain which lasts a lot longer than an E30 M3s (replace at around 100k). Try some of the BMW forums for a more comprehensive answer.

I had an 91 H (H882 HAD) E30 318is from 93 - 97. Great cars.
Mine didnt have a sunroof so cant help there. Dont think it had a cam belt.
the only thing that went wrong on mine was a fan belt. The only items I paid out for were standard servicing, brake pads and tyres.

Mr F they are great little wagons, not quite as nippy as somat like an E30 325i but in my experience the lighter four pot feels a fair bit more nimble in the twisty stuff- just watch that tail in the wet if its ya 1st RWD, E30 rear suspension is a bit primative and tail happy compared to later stuff.

I had an E30 325i for a while many years ago & wasnt experienced with RWD, think I span it 3 times in the 1st week

Mr Flibbles - Camchain, so no belt worries, the M40 Engine is a cracker.

Sunroof, depends what is wrong with it, could be the motor, runners, or even winder gearbox. At the worst you may need a new sunroof cassette.

They are excellent cars, enjoy.

Be wary with that back end though!

Does that mean I have to watch my back end in the 320i...helpful advice needed!

enjoy your e-30 mr flibbles, ive had a 1984 model 2.3i 6-pot for over 7 years and (touchwood) it has never broken down on me.iirc you should have around 150bhp as std.

ive taken mine off the road as im doing the bodywork up at the mo but i have noticed that since i started driving my 'tina again my driving has toned down somewhat.......no doubt to come back with a vengence once the old girl is back on the road.

I think its more around the 139 mark, but once its been serviced, i'll get it on the rolling road and back to new (ish)

anyone got any idea what this costs?

My first road car was an E30 323i, spun it on the first roundabout after I bought it...they're great fun. the 6 cyl cars are infinitely better than the 4 pots IMO...if you like the 318 you'll love the 6cyl..best buy 325....enjoy !

Had a 320i for 2years/40k some time ago, very nice, very smooth. had my first ever spin on wet roundabout outside tyre factory.... Complete magnet for the Bib, though. Got stopped an average once a month for two years.. Car was unmodified, never questioned driving etc, never found anything wrong with car.
