Can anyone please advise what the optimum revs a 320i (1996) should idle at? Mine ticks over at approx 600 when stationary when in fact I thought it was supposed to be nearer 800? Consequently it always tries to stall when you pull away

I've mentioned this when it's been in for servicing but the problem never seems to get rectified

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it should be higher, and it shouldn't stall.

800-1000 would seem about right.

One for your dealer to sort, probably. Uselss buggers. Shouldn't take them long if they put their mind to it.

Anyone know how to adjust the idle on these as mine is the same 318i (F Reg) idles at around 600 hence very lumpy on idle and sometimes tries to stall when pulling away.

Is there a simple way to adjust it?

Had a very similar thing on an 89 G 318I Touring some years ago which was cured by replaceing a very simple gasket (was leaking air somewhere) I dont know where though!..... somewhere around the injection system

Yep I already have suspicions about the inlet manifold gaskets, might just order a set up and change them see what happens from there

Inspected the inlet manifold tonight and found a split hose, filled it with silicon sealant and eh viola sorted, will order a new hose tomorrow

Mine too

So, it rather sounds like I've got to check my gasket then?
Hmm...might have to enlist some help there!!

might also be worth checking out the idle control valve and the hoses to and from it.

Take a look at this website for some rough guides although this is 318 based the info may still help

Haven't had a chance to do anything about it as yet! The Chim is playing up too and that takes priority because although the problem with the beemer is annoying, it's not of great concern and I've adapted my driving technique to take account that it always TRIES to show me up by stalling BUT I have the upper hand there

Dan...it's okay. Lotusnobles is just messing around, we know each other

Btw, I like the pic of your beemer on your profile.
