i know there are some on these forums who have experience of the current M5,i just wondered how it might compare to my much loved cerb.

i have no real reason for this interest,i guess im just curious now the M5 can be had for reasonable money.

do i need shooting for even mentioning such a thing?

mike.

A gut I work with has one, driven it a few times, quick but overpriced for what it is/does and performs.
The new M3 would be a much better choice, great drivers car and won't depreciate as much as the now deleted M5, the photos are already in circulation for the new 500bhp M5 that's replacing it.
It depends what you want, by driving the Cerbera I take it that you liked it's drop dead styling, in the understated M5 you could look like anything from a drugdealer to a taxi!

Yes at the 68,000 that the first owner of my car paid, including options, but not at the 30,000 I paid.

A Cerbera and the M5 are really too different to compare I think. If you really like the Cerbera then a M3 would probably be a better choice. If you are looking for more refinement and also a fast, fun, BIG car then the M5 is hard to beat.

Horses for corses etc. My work colleague has a wife and two toddlers and does about 25,000 miles a year so the M5 is the perfect answer for someone with responsibilities that wants to drive quick. I myself drive a TVR which I love to bits and is more fun than the M5 but I wouldn't want to do 25k a year in it!

I have a foot in each camp - a 730 for sensible stuff and long distances, and a Griffith for fun and weekends. If I could only have one car an M5 might be on the shortlist but I think I'd want it convertible. AFAIK BMW have never done a 5-series convertible???

I do sell drugs and I do have an M5. what are you implying?
BTW I also have a Cerbera 4.5 for track days.

If anyone can advise me as to how to ACTUALLY purchase one of these mythical beasts (with the correct and fundamentally essential widescreen sat-nav console) for the sort of non-urine extracting prices that the mags all seem to suggest are available more commonly than shellsuits down the local ASD-oh, then I'd be indecently grateful to know the address from whence such a vehicle could be liberated.

In the meantime, given the nose-to-tail nature of 99% of driving in practice, a prev gen E55 AMG might be a solid alternative - question is - when you did get a good road would it be anywhere near said Munchen legend?

More chance of interviewing The Scottish Beastie.

I'm very interested in the M5 - seems to be a load of 99 models available on Autotrader with Sat Nav and TV for about 22-25k. Am I right in thinking there was a facelift of the car at some point? Does anyone know when this was? 2000?

2001 was the facelift. Widescreen nav only on the M5 as they already had white lenses, the last seven digits of the vin are prefixed by CB rather than BJ for the face lift cars.

im trying to find DeR one but 'needle in haystack' comes to mind. (also he thinks im an automotive rapist because of his lexus.....which im not)

Quick plug: Mine's for sale on the classifieds if anyone is interested. It doesn't have the sat nav/tv option, but it's a damn good car (now it has been fixed) and an absolute bargain at £22K!

I'm not sure there is anything else out there which has the toys, build quality, handling or sheer performance for the same price. I'll be sad to see it go, actually.
