I wonder if one of you BWM boffins would be prepared to help settle this little kit car controversy? We’re looking for a photo of a V8 motor as fitted in a 5 series, or at least dimensions.

3. The BMW V8 is smaller than the Chevy V8 so If you have fitted Chevies under a cobra bonnet (I saw the TV programme) how do you justify your comments that you don’t think the BMW will fit?

I wonder if one of the guys on the BMW forum would be kind and post a pic of a 5 series V8. Anyway, see my point above re “fits perfectly”. How will anybody know ‘till its been done?

Ideally, it'd be great if it could be posted on the Kit Car Magazine is Crap? thread in the Kit Car section.

Thanks!

I had an E36 325i with a 540i engine in. If someone measures the engine bay of a 3 series you'll have your answer. The main problem was height of engine, not width.

Voila, one picture of a BMW V8. From an E39 five, at a rough guess. Snot an E38 7, nor is it an E34 5.

Duly cross-posted to the other place too.
