New Pilot Sport II vs Pilot Sport

Has anyone had any experience with the new style Michelin Pilot Sport II??
I know the V groove older PS was OE on the M5 and I have a recommendation from BMW to fit the PS (old design of course) and also the Michelin technical team said to use the newer type.
I need some new rears and dont want to end up with not being able to match the fronts in 6-8 months.
