Picking up the new M3 in a couple of weeks and have been asked whether we want to have the cars paint work protected. They use Diamond Bright. Apparently, the black on the M3 is more susceptable to damage?
Sounds bad to me, if a brand new £45k car requires extra paint protection....
Or is it just an extra that the car doesn't really need? Just another way to get more money?

Has anyone any experience of this, any comments as to whether it's worth the money?

Cheers everyone,

sohlman

My only comment i can add is that we have a 528 in cosmos black and it marks terible. The slightest scratch or stone chip glares at you. Unfortunantly this is the nature of black cars, so any form of increased protection that the car paint can have would be worth while on a black car. If it was a lighter colour i would not bother.

Although no personal experience, I have heard very good things about Armourfend, www.armourfend.com from fellow M Coupe owners. A full treatment (it is basically a transparent, tough 3M film applied to the exposed paintwork, i.e. bumpers, mirrors, bonnet, spoiler, etc.) would run into 500 £ or so.

Conversely, I have heard that the Diamnond Bright treatment really isn't worth the money, as it is little more than a wax treatment, IIRC

There's nothing much wrong with diamond brite as long as you pay the correct price for it, thats about thirty quid and an hours labour for the valeter, so thats about thirty five quid total! Pretty much all the so-called paint protection packages are about the same value, thirty quid, the reason the dealers charge about £200 - £500 a throw is all to do with greed and a bigger than is moral margin. As a car salesman of twenty years standing, trust me!
