E30 Electric Sunroof ....

Probably due to the sliding bar type arrangement, where the roof lifts past a certain point.
Had the same thing once, ended up buying a new sunroof cassette after stripping it down.
However, it may even be the sunroof gearbox. That would be the cheaper option!
