Dear BM owners

I am about to sell my TVR and buy a used M5. The car I have got my eyes on is a left hand drive 99 model. 47,000 miles with a good history. Just been serviced, fitted with a new clutch and looks as if it is pretty good nick.

Please advise on any particular checks, quirks etc for a car of this age approaching 50,000 miles.

Thanks in advance

Patrick

Or drop me a mail and I can send you a copy.

get some proper BMW warranty with it otherwise i wouldn't bother personally. Went to see a car last saturday and it had had no end of engine problems with it in its short 25k mile lifetime. If that little babay goes pop then it'll be the cost of a complete donor car to fix it. Thats just me though .. ive had way too many engines go in my time to risk owning an advanced engine liek that without any comeback.

as for teh linden vehicle ??? I dont get that, its a tuned 540 but is more than the cost of a mint sub 20k mile main dealer 2001 M5 with full BM warranty ? How come theres BM warranty on it in any case if the engine's been tampered with ?

Its a third party warranty on the engine and 'box. That and the fact that its far more expensive than a pucka M5 puts me off doing it on my 540i Sport. (Which i only bought because you cant get an M5 in an auto and a Jag XKR dosn't fit a baby!).

if its warranty holdings or motorplan etc.. then they only cover for £30 per hour incl. vat - im not sure who could/would feasibly work on such a complex custom blown V8 with double vanos for taht sort of money ?

You guys are doing your best to put me off but to no avail. The deal is done and I should be able to collect the car this weekend.

I hope my next post will be a happy one and not to ask for mechanical advice.

Let the touring begin

Enjoy.

Mine puts a grin on my face every time I drive it.

Visit bmwm5.com and watch the video of Sabine driving the M5 ring taxi around the Nordschleife.
