Door snags.

Can anyone please help?
My drivers side door makes an awful 'crack' type of noise in two positions when opening it.
It is something to do with the hinge. I have greased it, to no avail, it seems to be getting fouled in the door apeture causing the loud cracking noise.
Any ideas how to fix please?
The car is an e30 325 touring.

Dont know if its the same thing but I had a similar sound on an E30 once, turned out to be the retaining bar thingy. It had broken near one of the bolts that secured it to the door frame and while it still worked after a fashion it made an awfull noise. A new one wasnt expensive.
