Ordered my M3 with the SMG box. I've done a search on this site for threads regarding the SMG box which have been interesting. Unfortunately I have not actually driven one with the SMG box....crazy, I know but I got the chance of a cancelled order and took it so it arrives in a couple of weeks. Anybody got any comments on the manouvering characteristics i.e parking etc with the SMG? I've read it can be a bit tricky until you get used to it.

"bluesatin" has got one. Very happy with it from his comments at PistonFest.

I have one. It replaced my stolen manual and I love it (loved the manual too). It takes a day or two to get used to the clutch bite point for manoeuvring, particularly for reverse parking uphill. You have a little less in the way of fine control than you get with a clutch pedal, but it is absolutely fine.

For track driving and for any situation on the road where you feel the need to drop a few gears to accelerate, SMG is sublime.

On the Autobahn, you can be stuck behind traffic at 80 mph, wait patiently until the road clears flip down form 6th to 3rd and squeeze the accelerator hard as you go up through the gears. The throttle blip as you flip down three gears is fantastic.

I love it, best for country driving and not a problem parking. As everybody says it takes time to get used to the driving style but after that its great

OK. Thanks for the comments. Can't wait to try those downshifts.
