E46 M3 diff problems

Has anybody had any problems with the diff on a SMG M3. Mine is being replaced and was wondering if anybody else has had this done?

A colleague at work with an E46 M3 SMG thought he had diff problems when the car made a grinding noise over speed bumps. The mobile engineer took it out for a test drive and it seemd OK. When it went into the garage to be checked they found small stones trapped in the rear disk assembly - this was the cause of the noise. They said it was a common problem
