Last night someone got into the wife's new 3 series - without breaking any glass! So much for the BMW alarm! I'm now searching for a decent alarm system, expecting the car to go for a walk if I don't get one sharpish.

Does anyone have any recommendations about types of alarms, manufacturers, suppliers in the South East? And what is the difference between Thatcham Cat 1 and 2?

Sorry mate but I don't think you can improve it, security systems don't come much better than the one on E46 BMW's, how did they get in to the car?
Are you sure you didn't leave it open?

Tks for replies.

It's one of those situations - my wife was sure she locked it (and is usually good at remembering to lock it), but when confronted with an unlocked car (and no broken glass) started to become paranoid. I'm reassured by what you say about the alarm tho'. Also, I've been having hassles with a retrofit alarm on another car, so would prefer not to have an installer hack into the wiring on the BMW.
