Induction I think. I take it that is the best path as it offers least air resistance?

Not necessarily. An induction kit with no form of heat shielding will suck in all the hot air under the bonnet (heat soak) and this will loose the engine power and make it worse than standard.

You would need to make sure you get a cold air induction kit like a gruppem system (very expensive) or similar from K&N, Piperx etc. But it must be shielded. A standard K&N cone filter would do, again as long as you have a cold air supply (pipe from front of the car direct to filer) plus shielding.

Most people recommend the replacement of the standard panel filter with a K&N panel filter. To get the most out of this though you would need to think about an exhaust upgrade, custom chip, throttle body etc.

HTH.

Being a plumber by trade, would it be feasible if I constructed a scoop to fit somewhere behind grille, then ducted to air filter?

Induction kits on N/A cars are generally a waste of time, An uprated panel filter will serve you better

Yes it would but you would still need to combine this with a heat shield. Or as I have, a replica carbon cold air induction kit
