My father has been quoted £614 to renew the warranty on his 30000 mile 325i auto (2002). This includes the rescue insurance at £147. I think this is a little steep - are dealers open to a little negotiation on the price ?

Yes I don't think that is bad if you take into account the recovery is included.

My S2000 was £425 for 2 years inc AA, so I disagree...

I was quoted £720 by BMW to cover my 318is a few years back... which is why I decided instead to stick £500 in the bank as a contingency and told them to go shove their warranty where the sun don't shine... if there was room in there next to their head rolleyes

Think it also depends on what is in the fine print of the warranty, devil is in the detail ..

I was quoted about £350 for return to invoice insurance when I bought my BMW. I got it from the web for about £80 in the end and that was the going rate. I bet BMW make as big a mark up percentage on their warranty. As a private individual you can purchase warranties that garages provide and that's what I'll be doing for my BMW when the dealer warranty expires.

I've a 330 and wouldn't dream of not having a warranty on the engine. If it goes pop, it'll cost a fortune. Even a air con fan can cost £1k to fix with BMW.

Ah but there is a big issue with those warranties and I know because I supply them. They don't cover everything unlike a BMW warranty and most have claim limits.

Ie: Hifi equipment is not covered, your Harmon Kardon speakers go pop and try claiming for those on a Non BMW warranty and they will openly laugh at you!!!

The BMW warranty is a very good product and worth every penny. IMO of course.
