Back in the depths of last November I broke all the used car buying rules, embarking on a 100 odd mile trip to buy a pedigree 1 owner, FSH with supplying dealer E28 from a 'trader' on the outskirts of London at night under the lighting of a petrol forecourt!

From the way it drove I knew I had to have it, despite its 122k its proper servicing had paid dividends, no rattles, no bangs, no wallowings, it drove like a 3yr old car!

Now, anyone who thinks Derins E28 was just a bloody good valet, then I suggest you try doing one of these yourself! Six months on (though not quite at the speed and dedication of Derin) its taking shape and is ready to break cover... still plenty to do though!

I give you...

Interior Hasnt Been touched yet, but in excellent order!

Mustard - beautiful, and lovely choice of wheels!

I feel your pain, still working on mine, some work done but much to do still. But next step is a trip to Le Mans.

Not posted a pic on PH yet, so here she is:

Mustard - lookin' healthy.

Can't ever recall seeing an F registered one though. Loads of D reg, a few E reg but not clapped eyes on an F. Surely one of the very last.

Shame it's not a manual though! For me at least smile

The evil in me says insert the contents of an E36 M3 inside the engine bay along with the anchors biggrin

I'm having pretty similar thoughts, except the E34 M5 engine is much easier to fit in, and doesn't suffer the issues of the double Vanos Evo unit...

I like that 525e a lot. Always had a soft spot for the efficiency thing. I imagine, though, that it's quite possible to tune the existing engine to give a lot more punch?

One question - has the rear valance been bent to fit the exhaust pipe?

It's crying out to be lowered, I bought a set from these people,

They don't seem to do them for the E28 but i might be worth asking them, mine were professionally fitted and have been excellent (12 months).
Old cars do get tired springs you will be surprised how much better it would feel with a new set on, the labour charge for fitting springs, dampers and discs all round was £200, not bad I thought.

In answer to a few questions/suggestions

Rear valance is factory standard with usual central 'cut out'

yep, Marquis Rex has given a few pointers on how to extract some more power if required, in standard form its fairly low on power but high on torque (likened by some to a modern turbo diesel) makes for a surprisingly capable waft!

Car also benefits from the factory optional extra of the switchable EH gearbox

Ref Suspension.... sometime in the near future I shall be sending into my specialist for a suspension / bush refresh

Still some minor exterior jobs to do, interior out valet and yet more engine bay polishing then she'll be finished
