Due to pick it up later this week. I have been looking at various cars in the last few months and thought this would be a fun, easy to maintain runabout. I will need to dust of my tools so that I can get it in the garage and give it a good check over when I get it back home. I am quite looking forward to maintaining my own car again.
As someone who spent my early driving years in rear wheel drive cars and then had years of front wheel drive company cars I can't wait.

Oh yes, nearly forgot, it's a 328.driving

Welcome to (what I believe as) one of the understated and soon to be classics biggrin

Is it a Sport?

Unfortunately not a Sport, but the price was right. Finished in Silver with Black leather. Will take some pics as soon as I get it back home.
Once I have checked it all out and dealt with any problems I may think about some suitable 'improvements' but would like to keep it looking as authentic as possible.

eta Manual gearbox, I don't do autos.

I collected it on Thursday and drove the 250 miles home no problem. It's a bit tatty, but I knew that and it was priced accordingly. Now drawing up a long list of things that need doing.
It's got rather an odd mix of cheap tyres on it so the sooner I wear them out I can get the wheels refurbed and some decent tyres. First priority is to sort out the rather sloppy gear change, get a spare key and replace the knackered steering wheel.
It drives and handles ok for a 12 year old car, but I don't want to start pushing it yet until I have a chance to get it up on axle stands and have a proper look around it.

Can I ask roughly how much you paid for it? Trying to get an idea what one goes for. I'm sure some of the ads I've seen suffer from "it's a BMW - it must be worth atleast that!" syndrome, whereas some seem like very good value.

The only problem with the sport wheels is that it'll take you 5 times as long to clean them because of the number and complexity of the spokes. Still, a nice looking wheel though.

will find out soon enough - some are on their way clap. will report back after their pickup and clean at the weekend.

Only issue I've got now is that I need two new rear tyres, and they're a little pricey yikes. I've been looking on the usual places like blackcircles.co.uk and mytyres.com but the noone will will fit them for me if I get them mail order - anybody else have experience of doing this?

also the other 'niggle' I've got is the tiny rubbers have perished at the bottom of the rear opening windows - does any body know if bmw still make these?

Recommend Goodrich Profiler G on the 2-8. Good grip, stable in the wet and at speed, and long wear characteristics. nice looking tread. My brother does them from his place in gatwick at around £100 a corner (may be less)

The 1/4 light lower rubbers are £30 a side from BMW - not a difficult job to replace either. Plenty of write-ups on E36coupe.com

For me, on the rear - 245/40/17 I am running Marshall KU17s - really cheap, but very good quality, and use the same technology as Goodyear on their F1's - silica technology.

A thumbup from me...

Many thanks for the info guys - much appreciated. Time to go shopping I think!

As for the tyres - have you got your brothers details Dunk76? I live in tonbridge so a trip to gatwick is no hassle if it's worth the while... not to mention some good country lanes en route.

Thanks Dave, I'm now all signed up so time to do some serious read...

I'm guessing you've pretty much done most things to yours bow, so I'm hoping you'll be able to steer me in the right direction.

What's the best way to start 'tweaking'? and what is going to give me the best 'return' for my money?

having recently joined the housing ladder, funds aren't exactly forthcoming but I still want to do the basics just to release some of the cars' hidden potential... I've heard that the 325 manifold route is the best place to start but tracking one down is proving a little tricky.. (also how much should I aim to pay?) I've also heard that you can get a big bore throttle body but imagine that's not exactly the cheapest mod to start with confused

Any suggestions and useful info to put me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Sam
