My owner's handbook says no bio diesel...why is this? Anybody?

Obviously, it IS a performance car and might well be sensitive to fuel quality. I have an enquiring mind and would like to know the details. Does anybody have specific details of their reasoning, please? What are the official views on veg diesel?

Thanks. H

Alledgedly - the high pressure pump seals etc , injectors and the like are not suitable to biofuel.

However - if you check the BMW ETK system for the part number for the pump - it supercedes to a pump that is compatible.

Your choice - your risk.

My 330d regularly returns over 600 miles to a tank a good old diesel.

All the best

How the hell do you manage that? I get about 450 out of mine, used to get about 650 from my old A4 1.9TDi using a similiar amount of right foot. Mine is an auto though and it is still pretty new to me so I enjoying to the full wink

The High Pressure Pumps are not designed to run on Bio diesel, I think from memory you are allowed up to 5% mix of Bio fuel in the diesel.

We have had a few in at work that need the fuel system flushed and a couple of them have needed pumps and injectors.

The latter posts are precisely the kind of comment to persuade me to follow what the book says. Just because grown ups say you shouldn't do things, doesn't mean they are always right, in perpetuity.

I just need reasons to do or to not do things. Thank you.

Hi

my car is a 2001 330d SE Manual - and I drive it conservatively - and only occaisionally exercise the engine. As a result , very little oil is used between services , despite covering 86K so far.

Mind you - I only return approx 350 per tank when towing the car I use to get the speed out of my system.

Take a look at the profile - I have a picture there from Castle Coombe.

All the best

I've got an '02 330d AUTO which has had the Superchips treatment.
I get 550 miles from a tank doing fast A-roads and M-ways
Drops to 350 in town-commutes.

Chipping made these figures better than before.
