Cracked wheelrims
Discussion
I have 124 style 18" on my E61 525d and had a slow puncture from when I bought the car (1 year old) from the dealer. This got worse over time to the point where the puncture warning was comng on every few days. The tyre place found a crack in the rim on the inside edge. I was told by unreliable sources that this can be down to very stiff RFT sidewalls resulting in damage when tyres are fitted - I'm still not sure if this is true. There are a number of reports of cracked 124 18" rims on the E60.net forums so it may also be style specific.
The most hassle occured when I "discussed" this with my dealer who's suggestion initially was that I buy a new rim (£200+) and he woud get the BMW wheel warranty specialist to review the wheel - if was considered a warranty case then they would refund the money to me. This specialist was due to visit them in 4 weeks time....
After a lengthy exchange of views they fitted a new rim under warranty the next day.
Hope this helps.

Hi
sorry to intrude - but I read the thoughts about the BMW alloys , and thought the following might be of interest , and this is direct from BMW.
When a cracked wheel is inspected , the engineer will look for rim damage or misalignment approx 90degrees around from the location of the crack.
It has been noted eventually in most cases that the crack is a direct result of an impact whilst driving. The impact causes in most cases a crack to occout in the rim , but not necessarily at the point of impact.
Please bear in mind that this is not meant to be a judgement of any past or future posts , but just a helpfull relaying of ideas and thoughts won through experience.
Cheers
