Hi,

This is my first post as i've been looking all over the forum for an answer but can find a post that covers this...

I've got a standard BMW Business Stereo in my E46 325, does anyone know if it has a pre out, so you can connect up an amplifier? i've changed the standard speakers (which we're a let down to be honest!) but would like to keep the CD Changer and Steering controls so didn't want to go down the route of getting a new head unit to improve the sound.

Any advice much appreciated

Matt

Nope - there's no pre out. The e46 business stereo is shocking as standard.

The quickest and cheapest way of getting substantially better sound is to fit a sony 'Sound-on-top' amplifier which is a high-level amp.

They've been discontinued now but float around on ebay and amazon. I got mine for £30. Simply plugs into the back of the HU and sits behind the glovebox.

There are loads of threads on BMWland about it. I think the amp is called the 'Sony XM423' but is also referred to as the Sound on Top.
