turbo problem E34 525tds se????

I have recently become the new owner of a 95 E34 Td , problem is it feels gutless , on the motorway its always dropping down a couple of gears to keep up speed and i really have to squeeze the throttle , and all this to mantain a speed of 70-80 mph , can anyone tell me how i can check the turbo to see if it works? also can anyone recommend someone who is not too expensive to fix and service the car

also any ideas on what it should do mpg wise?

could be somthing simple,
try changing the fuel filter, ive had the same type of problem
years ago.

The turbo's on these always used to be bullet proof.
The problem we did used to see was air being drawn into the fuel lines-Always used to be the fuel pump in the tank failing.

another problem is that it idles eratically and when you selcet a gear it often stalls , am really cheesed of , and hope i can get it fixed

damm punture first thing this morning , anyone know eher these metric tyres can be had?
