Got a phone call from a mate saying that the roof has stopped working. He says that the windows go down half way and then stop.

Other than the fuses are there any obvious things to check?

TIA

Make sure he hasn't raised the boot storage shelf. Or damaged the microswitch which it touches. That's a common issue esp. if people have been fiddling in the boot with firewall carpet. Does he get a flashing light once the windows have gone part way down?

yes

is it the microswitch? can you reset it?

In the boot you have a drop down panel-this is raised to give more luggage space. But when you want the roof open you must drop it to the down postion(2 turn handles-1 either side). If it isnt down the side windows will drop half way and thats it-no operation of the roof at all.Flashing amber led in button
The microswitch is what this drop down panel rests on allowing the roof to operate-its located central at the back of the boot(looking into the boot)If you raise the panel you will see it
