No Coolant in 2001 3 series

My young cousins 2001 316 coolant light came on over the weekend so i filled it up and all seems ok at the moment, Service was done 1k miles ago so i am a bit worried incase its head gasket failure?? If so, what type of Bill are we looking at, if not, any other ideas?

get it pressure tested...

could be head gasket, a hose, weeping rad, heater matrix....

Also prone to airlocks.

Was the coolant changed at the recent service ?
