Chaps,

Any recommendations on what to put in the power steering reservoir on a 7 series?
Occasionally I get a warning flash up saying steering oil low - ususally after going rather quickly round a tight corner / roundabout. Figure this means the reservoir is a little low and needs a top up.

Don't really want to go to a dealer to do this (unless y'all think its wise) - so whats the part number for power steering fluid - or where can you get this for bimmers at reasonable rates?

Thanks guys, that should be enough info for me to sort it.
Only happens when I really nail a tight hairpin, so it could just be the fluid sloshing about in the reservoir and tripping the sensor - still a little top up won't hurt.

Don't seem to be any leaks in the system - certainly no tell tale drips under the car...

Mine just says ATF fluid only (surely that covers a huge range of potential types!!)

The stuff in it is red but it's had a leak in the past so been topped up on a regular basis til I got the car and fixed the leak

Yours is as you have been using is ATF 220 or dextron 3,this seems to be used on the smaller engine 7 and the CHF 11 S on the V8 and up-also if the car has dynamic drive(active roll bar)then it will only use CHF 11 S
