Discussion
Yes they are making a coupe as we speak if you go on to www.autotrader.co.uk you will find the latest spy shots of it.

The 3 door ! series is launched next month and the Convertible is due next year. Not a 2 series but maybe that answers your question?
The 3 door version looks much better than the standard 5dr. I imagion that these will sell very well once they are released.
The 2 is a fantastic looking little car from what I've seen.

It does and I hope it sells very well!! - well my bank manager does

The 3 door 1 series comes out in July 07. The convertible 1 series will be out in 2008 IIRC. They can't really call it the 2 series obviously as it's based on the 1. If you look at the Audi range now you have A1,A2,A3,A4,A5,A6,A8 blurber blah de blah, bit too much to choose from and the cars are only slightly bigger than the previous as you go up. Another reason could be that when pricing the cars you'll find that for example, X3 BMW £28,000 OTR but with a few toys is now £38,000 so might as well go for an X5, in fact £38,000 would get you quite a tasty used X5 a new one would be another £10,000 on top (prices aren't exact I know). So there's overlaping prices to contend with on the different models & customer's get confused as to which model is which, not to mention to cost of designing & building a car that's only marginally bigger than the model below.
I was under the impression it will be called the 2-Series, the idea being all vehicles with two-doors or the sports models have an even model number designation. This didn't happen with the E92 because of the marketing value of the name M3 AFAIK.

So they do a 1 series, have considered a 2, do a 3,5,6 & 7 and have done an 8. It's an interesting coincidence that the firm that took over production of pre war BMW's post war numbered their products 400-412.
Is the Bristol really the BMW 4 series?

It's still not right though - the new X6 (by name it should be a coupe) will be a regular 5-Door SUV (it's just a 'coupe' like the CLS).
