I have a nice 1994 740 which I parked up and locked. Didn't use it for several weeks but on return the battery is absolutely dead. So it won't open on the key fob. And it won't open on either front door by lifting the driver's door handle and turning the key to the front to jump it up, the usual trick.
I can get into the boot on the key and that's as far as I get.
I have removed the boot light and exposed the wiring because that is on when the lid is up. In theory, if I apply power from a battery charger to these leads it would put power into the circuit from which I might get the car open.
Two wires go to the boot interior lamp one red with white trace and the other white with brown trace but I can't decide which is the earth or work it out and I don't want to stuff the electrics.
Anyone got any smart ideas please? Or an axe?

I would have thought that your local specialist could either open the doors or bonnet and then allow you to use a trickle charger to restore the power. Give them a ring and ask! Or you can use the tennis ball trick and forced air to push the lock open!

Thanks for your answers. The battery is under the rear seat inside the car.

One of the leads to the boot light has a red trace indicating positive and the other brown indicating negative. I tried the battery charger but no luck, not enough power and then got brave and put in a spare battery which provided enough power to activate the central locking on the key and I'm now in.

Only problem at the moment is that I'm charging the battery and when I hook it up the alarm sounds. Decided to wait until the battery is fully charged before hooking it up again.

Many thanks
