Alleged climate control?
Discussion
Does anyone else with a new'ish car (BMW) find that the climate control doesn't? This weekend the climate control would blast freezing air when first started (which was nice) but then when the interior cooled it became a slight breath of cold air which seemed to cool the first inch or so after the vents (which was sh1t), while the rest of the interior heated up again?! I was continually intervening with manual fan settings to re-cool the car again...
My previous non-BMW cars with CC maintained a constant temp to within a degree or two of whatever was set - but with my E60 I can turn it right down to 16C when in auto mode and after the initial rush it practically switches off? Even the Disco has better climate control and that has a system designed in the early 80's!
Do I need a stealer visit (warranty) or is this typical?

Ive had 5 BMW's with Climate and its hopeless. Mine went the other way.....set it to a comfortable 18 deg then it would gradually get colder and colder with me keep increasing the temp setting all the way to 22 - 25 before the bloody thing stopped chucking freezing air at me.
Maserati....set it to 18 and it stays nice and comfortable

John, This time of year everybody has there A/C / climate control playing silly buggers. It sounds like it's just a sensor problem take it down to your stealer (don't pay for an A/C spring check-up) and get them to sort it. Only problem i can think of is your time but the system is still U/W.

Go into the i-drive settings and see what they are set at, best to leave them on auto and the centre vents half way between blue and red. also check that the rear vents haven't been turned to red.
Other than that all I can suggest is, Open a window? atleast you can hear the engine better

Sorted! Quick call to Coopers BMW and they asked if I had the middle vents in the front pointed upwards? Yep, as always... The sensors in the E60 are set into the roof lining either side of the front interior light set, therefore the vents were blowing A/C air onto the sensors and as far as the climate control was concerned the car is freezing!
Aimed the vents a bit lower and closed them halfway and all seems to be ok...
Simple solution for what I thought was going to be a nightmare problem!

Anybody know where they are in an E39? I know there is one in the control panel itself behind a tiny grill ( fan turns for about 10 mins after ignition switched off) but are there any others?
Those are the only ones. You will have great fun if you put a very hot or cold drink in the cupholders as they position the drink directly in front of the sensors. Aside of this issue I find the E39 climate control is superb.
