E36 auto burning smell?

Hi

I test drove an E36 323 convertible 1988 AUTO today. I could smell a burning rubber smell when driving and at idle. Any ideas? anything related to auto box??

Seeing as nobody else has replied. FWIW mine sometimes smells of hot oil (if that sounds familiar) in slow traffic. Nothing major though, just a slight waft.
