About to order a Z4C.....but?
Discussion
I'm about to order a Z4C 3.0si Sport, there's a few new ones around at the moment in the dealership and my garage seems to be doing a reasonable deal on them, talk about knocking 2-3k off of new models base price and we can have one in about 10 days. Which all sounds great. I've done quite a bit of reading about them, and there are rumours that production is to stop at the end of the year. Should I be worried about this? I guess as they're just Z4 with a different body there should be no problems with servicing etc. What about residuals , planning to keep it 2 years, so I would think as there aren't too many around prices should stay reasonable?
I test drove one again this morning and I really enjoyed the drive although couldn't push it any, my wife loved it too, but found the gearbox a little clunky at low speeds, are they all like that? Does that just take some getting used too?

Hello Rhubarb
I've got a Z4 coupe at the moment (although its not mine, mine will be here in about 2 months, but bthats another thread in itself
).
It really is a great drivers car and as such should always be a saleable car. As far as discounts are concerned I got about £4500 off (this was on a £39000 retail car) so I'd say push for a little more, especially if youre getting a car from stock.
I too usually keep my cars a couple of years and looking at the price of roadsters I'd say depreciation is OK, not wonderful but OK.
If you want a low depreciator, buy a Golf, if you want a sports car then, for the money, this is about as good as it gets (I'm sure people will now point out to me better/cheaper cars)

Couldn't comment on the depreciation issues, but I was lurking around Lind in Colchester this morning and they have a virtually new Coupe in stock that wouldn't sell elsewhere.

Edited to say it looks like it might not be the only one.....

Rhubarb, just do it.
I now have mine back from the dealer and it now has the correct tyre pressures and a strut brace fitted. The difference is amazing and I just love my car.
Regarding depreciation my finance company put a £16k balloon on my £34k car, after 4 years.

Hi ya - I'm rather hoping they do stop production on the coupes at the end of the year...guaranteed exclusivity! I've heard that they've not sold in large numbers and that suits me fine - after all, that's what allows the dealers to discount it. Not sure what the residual situation will be...but my advice would be lease/PCP it so that the residuals after 2 or 3 years are someone elses problem. Or, buy a 9-12 month old one, as they seem to be available even at main dealers from £32,000, for the M versions.
