Power Steering pipes! E38 - Help!!

Hi,
Dunno if anyone can help. I have two pipes going from my steering rack which go to the front of the car to what appears to be a small oil cooler front right side of the radiator.
The bottom of these two pipes is corroded where it has sat in a pool of water in the plastic undertray.- and is slowly dripping ATF fluid.
So - can I replace it myself? - there seems to be a union on the steering box which justs unscrews, but the pipe at the other end goes in this oil cooler... I cant see how this end comes off? - Does the oil cooler have to come off?
And is there a problem when refilling with ATF fluid? - I want to do this myself.... but just a little wary. Help??
