From places like e38.org I understand it is possible to retrofit the sat-nav TV unit, but was wondering if anyone here had any experience of doing it, ie how much for the unit, will the TV work etc. We have finally decided we would like it after not specing it with one, but am not sure of the costs/difficulty involved. Would be happy to do the work myself if possible.....

You would save yourself so much grief and money by going for a portable GPS unit like Garmin Nuvi 360 or similar. Just my .02

The way i see it, the cost of doing it will be high relative to the value of the car, so not worth doing IMHO.

i asked this very question on EvoTechnik, the guy from Sextons gave me some advice, here i then thought of what other iptions i could have here as i would prefer a system that looked like it came out of the factory. it turms out that the costs would be pretty much the same, but the difference is you would get a far far superior system to the factory

thats my 2p worth

Thanks for the links Umar.
The car was bought new to keep forever, no depreciation if you don't intend to sell. And I couldn't stand a lump stuck to the windscreen getting in the way and having to be removed whenever I parked up, or even a (superior) aftermarket option that wouldnt fit in with the interior or be fully compatible with the steering wheel etc.

A few years ago I went to a BMW stealer and they quoted me £2500 for the parts and installation. From my research, I could acquire all parts (16 items, plus the 12 screws and washers) required for around £600. Fitting it seems to be lots of work, but possible given a good few days, but still much less than the 3K iirc asked on the options list.

Perhaps I should do some more enquiries...

If you really really want to do it and I certainly wouldn't think of tackling it - there are a few people on www.the7seriesregister.co.uk that have ugraded - you may be able to pick up the majority of the parts at a reasonable price from someone on there..........

Just a thought
