afternoon all.
ive just been to the local BMW dealer to buy a single bolt for my roof bars to replce a lost one. of course BMW dont actually sell individual bolts, that would be far too obvious. they will sell me a set of bolts with the tool for fastening them for £17.41.

thats a lot of money for what is, in reality, a purchase of one bolt, so i thought i'd ask PH (before i buy the set from BMW) if anyone knows where i might get a single bolt? or maybe someone else has a spare as they lost one and spent £17.41 at BMW for a whole set?!

hope i dont sound to scroogey!
cheers nerf

Are they not an individual bolt with an individual head matched to the tool??
If so they usually come as a set, unless you have the original instructions and key number to order a new bolt or key individually.

You could always remove one of the others and match the thread etc against an ordinary bolt at an Automotive store.

do you mean that my tool wouldnt fit a new bolt that didnt come from the set i already have?

Possibly, some are a security one off fitting, like locking wheel bolts, it depends what type you have.

If you have normal allen key/Torx key or Multi spline then you should be able to get a replacement easy enough.

right, im with you. looks like i may have to pay the extra then. i noticed on the rack and the cycle bars the security measures are quite clever, so i shouldnt be surprised the bolts may be individual..

many thanks for your help FWN

all the best

its number 5 on this diagram, number 6 is the key, which i have. but it seems the bolts only come with that key, ie number 5. very handy website mind... good call..
