Hi Billy, what did you end up doing and has it made any difference?

I used the HIDS4U kit on my 1998 E39. They are not Angel Eyes but the there have been no problems with having to reprogramme the LCM or any warning lights etc. It was a straight plug and play. I also bought the proper BMW brackets for the ballast resistor so the installation looks almost like factory.

I did the www.hids4u.co.uk kit on my 2001 530d (facelift angel eyes), and it was a very easy swap. You of course keep the angel eyes lenses, just replace the actual bulb + feed the HID converter off the existing wiring. Check the website and talk to Ian for the best kit for your E39 to avoid the bulb warning.
