My dad has a 1998 328 coupe that he is thinking of putting on the market.

No pictures at the minute but I have to say this car is mint it's done 13000 miles all in the dry, the paintwork as is it left the factory (steel blue metallic), the alloys are pristine and the black leather interior is totally unmarked.

How much would this be worth, realistically?

depends if its got a bm history, truly mint cndition, if its a sport pack, if its a manual

if its yes to all 4 then perhaps £4,000-£4,500 to an enthusiast type

If its a auto, se then perhaps less

Depends if it's got the nikasil block, but start at £5k I reckon.

13,000 miles? As in 13K miles?! Seriously?

And these people are trying to offer you £5K for the car?!....LMAO!

If it hasn't got a Nikasil problem now it's highly unlikely to ever develop one now:

www.bmwclassics.co.uk/articles/nikasil.html

I think it would be very difficult to buy fuel in the UK now that isn't ULS?

In truth though Derin you are selling oddball bmw's at a massive price.

Asking over £7.1k for a white, 1986, 100k mile, 528i, that potentially been clocked is good going even if it is mint.

(in respect of clocked check your pubished history and the comment about the check at Steven James 8.99 against the rest of the history)

All we need now is derin's "Irish buyer" to join in and it will be great fun.

In truth though, it's not really worth a great deal more than one that's done average mileage.

Asking more than 6K for it will push it into E46 328ci money, above that and you're into E36 Alpina B3 3.2 money and getting close to E46 Alpina B3 3.3 cash, which is also 330ci territory.

And if that 13K has all been short journeys it's done more harm than high mileage.

Bennno,

Thank you for pointing out the error the text on my website. From the picture I have just taken below you will see that this was a simple typo on my part. I wrote 7/9/99 instead of the correct 7/6/99 ie. September instead of June. I hope the photograph clarifies the matter?

www.bmwclassics.co.uk/DSCN2094.JPG

Whilst I am very grateful to you for having pointed out this error I would also at this point caution you about casting aspersions about me knowingly selling a 'clocked' car.

Additionally, I could photograph a copy of the receipt I gave the 'Irish buyer' (who actually wasn't Irish) for the £200 deposit which he left me and the subsequent cheque stub I wrote out with his name on it when I returned it. I could even send you copies of all the e-mail correspondence relating to the deal with his contact details on them but quite frankly I can't be bothered...and furthermore it's none of your business!

Nevertheless, I am once again grateful to you having looked so long and hard at my white E28 528i and read it's accompanying text in such detail to have noticed this minor typographic error on my part. Rest assured that I will ask my wife to amend the text accordingly.

I never made any comment regarding you knowingly selling a clocked car, just pointed out that the history didnt match up which you have now explained as a typo on your web site. Given its a 21 year old car with a 4 year gap in history and presumably you havent owned it for the full 21 years then its probably safe to say you wouldnt be expected nor be able to warrant that the mileage is correct.

Back to the original point is that the original car enquiry shows that a car of a certain type might be worth one amount to one person and a lot more to somebody like yourself who appears to deal in rare bmw's at premium prices.

Sorry but the comments about the Irish chap go over my head....

So what territory is this in?

www.pistonheads.com/sales/107143.htm

With certain cars normal market values can't be applied. To the right buyer that E30 325i Sport will be worth every penny. Try to find another like it? And I do know someone who is actually interested in that car...don't know whether they've contacted the vendor yet.

About 6 years ago I bought my E32 735i with 26K miles on it. I paid threes (3x) times the going rate for a decent E32 at the time. Lots of people laughed at me for paying so much on one of the 7-Series forums at the time...a few years later the majority don't laugh but admire the car.

http://bimmer.roadfly.com/bmw/forums/

In the background in this pic you will notice a red E28? Not mine...but previously belonged to a friend of mine. Sold by him for £10500...sold by that buyer (the very next week!) on Ebay for £11300!

www.bmwclassics.co.uk/gallery/index.php?spgmGal=840Ci_Sport_HIW_393&spgmPic=21&spgmFilters=#pic

I sold this last year for £7999 with 86,800 miles on the clock:

www.bmwclassics.co.uk/gallery/index.php?spgmGal=Alpina_B3

That 328i with only 13K miles on the clock has got to be worth more than that to the right buyer.

Should this have been a £6K car?...somebody evidently think so?! In fact, IIRC that car was up for only here for £9999 (or something privately) bought by that dealership who then sold it with the ad in this link:

www.pistonheads.com/sales/140001.htm

P.S
Neil, I'd go for the extra large family bucket popcorn on this one sit, back and enjoy! This could be the extended 'Director's Cut'...

Oooh! Is this a game? My final answer is:

"That is clearly in ridiculous "out of the seller's mind" and most likely "still for sale" territory."

But to me it's very interesting. I paid 'more' than the going rate for my M3 with 27K miles. It was what I was looking for.
