Sorry but was just woundering if you could shed some light on my problem i have got?

Its an e36 98 2.8 sport.

As you can see in the pics below (if they are there) my air flow meter (i am assuming, even though it looks as if it has 2,one being just past the air filter?)i'm sure you can get the technical name for this seems to be sticking up rather high and rubbing against the bonnet, which causes the connector to come off, hence the bodge up of a cable tie holding it on!

Now when i bought this, the light for traction control kept coming on and i found the connector hanging off. I know quite a bit about cars and thought to myself how on earth can this connector coming off, cause the traction control light to cum on?
So i found that everytime i reconnected the connector back on the light went out (if ignition was turned off, then started again). This is why i bodged it up with the cable tie!

The problem now though is its still hitting the bonnet (as shown in pic) and when i pull away hard (say from the traffic lights to overtake somone)the light cums back on even though a slight bit of wheelspin occurs, but if i have it sideways on a roundabout the light doesn't come on!

This has really confused me as i thought it could be an abs sensor, but how does it link to that air flow sensor?

Have you ever seen this before? I thought it may have a 325 inlet manifold on it which caused all this agro?

Can i just add that the asc does work sometimes because you can feel it, its just when you push it that little bit more.

also where is the scanner conector block for my car?

If you can help i would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

dave

From what I can see briefly, that's your throttle body (throttle cables going to it) and it's the throttle position sensor that's becoming disconnected.

The 'light' will be the EML warning light, which indicates the system puts you in limp home mode as a major sensor is no longer connected/funtioning.

If it is the throttle body, I have no idea how it's been fitted like that though. I'd suggest you take it to a local BMW specialist to have a look over and tell you what's wring.

If you look on the item for a part number, you can check www.realoem.com to see what it is and if it's off your car or not.

That is the power control for the DSC/ASC it is a second throttle body before the main one, at rest it is fully open when the dsc/ASC detects wheel slip/spin the control unit operates this via the cable to close thus restricting the power output and reduce wheel spin.

I have never seen one hitting the bonnet before though.

Above is right,it restricts the power output from the engine when in traction control.
You need to have the fault memory checked and cleared.
I've not had one hit the bonnet before, there should be ample clearance for it...I pressume the engine mount is ok,or the bonnet hasnt got a bow init.
The diagnostic plug is a round black cap on the o/s of the engine bay

Brilliant, that does make sense.

The bonnet is in its original shape, so like you said, why it hits the bonnet i do not know?

Thanks for the replys

Dave why have you changed your name again? Maybe the same plonker who fitted the wrong suspension bush before you brought it has fitted the engine mount from a 750?
