BMW seem intent on putting bigger and bigger engines in their cars.

Where will it end? a 335 and 540 both seem a little unnnecccesssary although doubtless lovely cars to drive.

I, for one, wholeheartedly look forward to it

Means that in 10 years time we'll be looking at them in the Best Barges Thread all squabbling over who's going to have the manual version in an estate flavour for a 10% of the original cost! hehe

I though BMW were trying to get more power out of smaller engines?

I'd like to think that they'll do a 777il.

I just want them to do a 350, or maybe a 360 ... ? They'd probably state that the "engines don't fit".

But the cars keep getting bigger too.

Now give me an E30 with the 3.5 in it please. (Pretty sure Alpina did it?)

I dunno about un-necessary - remember the German autobahns
mean that faster cars get there sooner.

Mind you, once you've got a chariot that can do 155 mph
all day no problem, the only thing left to bicker
about is the acceleration and the mpg.

There must be a tradeoff point at which a large
engine needs to stop more frequently for fuel,
thus reducing the time taken to get somewhere.

After all, even in an M5, traffic gets in the way
sometimes.

Note that the 335i is just a 3.0litre engine

BMW themselves were not far of the mark with the E30 333i
Was for the South African market only though..
