I am looking to buy a Y reg 330d with 94k on the clock. It has history up to 79k but this service was done end of October 04, when the diesel pump was also replaced. I know Beemers have variable service intervals but this seems a bit of a long gap. The computer now says a service was due 1200 miles ago and the dealer says this would be done before a sale.

Should I be concerned about the service "gap" and the fact that the next service is now overdue? Also, is the diesel pump going pop a common problem on these cars? All thoughts welcomed!

Hi,

yes, I'd walk away from a car which was overdue a service, esp by that much. The 330d is a great car, and reliable....if you maintain it imho, and you'd have to wonder.

Check out the costs of servicing at your local dealer. There's several different levels of service, depending on interval - Oil service, Inspection 1 and 2 etc. They'll give you a guide price, and a decent service adviser will be able to give you a guide to total poss extras. Beware, some dealer service items can be horrendously expensive - I was quoted £150 for antifreeze (I bought a hydrometer for £4 and tested it myself).

Once you've sorted this you can factor it into what you spend, and, of course, with a good non-franchised garage could save a lot if you wish. Other consumables can be expensive too, eg tyres.

Sorry, don't know about pump. Mine's been almost faultless in 2 1/2 yrs. Buy carefully and you'll enjoy it.

Good luck.
