My 2004 MY 330d Sport Touring is just coming up for an Inspection at 39,000 miles.

It's covered under a 60,000 or 5 year sevice and maintenance package.

I have a number of minor niggles and I just wondered what you reckoned I could push for FREE fixes on:

1/One of the roof rails has some corrosion bubbling under on the leading edge.
2/ Perceptible trasmission while at 70mph at neutral throttle.
3/ Found recently that the car was sold to me under the AUC with the driver side Xenon headlamp euro adjuster lever snapped off.
4/ Perhaps cooincidently, the same light sometimes flickers over road bumps.
5/ Very abrupt auto downchanges on not particularly steep hills. Almost throws you into the footwell.
6/ Nearside front wheel has a noticeable rumble at low speeds on smooth roads. Took it into Cooper Reading and the Tech said it was a proabably a tyre wear issue but 8k miles later I can still feel it.
7/The engine is perceptably noisier at idle almost as if the engine cover is a bit loose and rattling.
8/Stereo and electrics sometimes stay on AFTER I've removed the key. I guess this is a barrel problem?
9/When cold the PAS pump groans a bit and I now notice the odd groan at almost full lock on mini round-a-bouts. As a rule I never ever hold the sterring on full lock so it's no abused.
10/ When I switch the engine of there is a noise almost like a large belt slipping somewhere. Lasts half a second and sounds like a fan belt slip but much deeper.

Which ones do your reckon I should roll over on and which ones should I make like a jack russel?

Many thanks.

1/One of the roof rails has some corrosion bubbling under on the leading edge.

If it's got a corrosion warranty, then give it go.

2/ Perceptible trasmission while at 70mph at neutral throttle.

Perceptible transmission what? whine? maybe prop guido coupling (usually vibration) or diff bearings - where and tear item I'm afraid.

3/ Found recently that the car was sold to me under the AUC with the driver side Xenon headlamp euro adjuster lever snapped off.

That's so minor I doubt anyone would have seen it - so probably not a deliberate/malicious attempt to decieve.

4/ Perhaps cooincidently, the same light sometimes flickers over road bumps.

Seems related - push for a replacement.

5/ Very abrupt auto downchanges on not particularly steep hills. Almost throws you into the footwell.

Autobox not covered under warranty and almost impossible to claim for - mainly because it'll never do it when the tech takes it out

6/ Nearside front wheel has a noticeable rumble at low speeds on smooth roads. Took it into Cooper Reading and the Tech said it was a proabably a tyre wear issue but 8k miles later I can still feel it.

This may be down to the tyre wearing - the B3 does it after 10K miles on Pilot sport 2s, the 328i used to do it on ProfilerGs on the last 10K of tread.

7/The engine is perceptably noisier at idle almost as if the engine cover is a bit loose and rattling.

Maybe exhaust heatshield - but again, you'll probably get 'they all do that'

8/Stereo and electrics sometimes stay on AFTER I've removed the key. I guess this is a barrel problem?

The B3 does this from time to time - still haven't tracked down why

9/When cold the PAS pump groans a bit and I now notice the odd groan at almost full lock on mini round-a-bouts. As a rule I never ever hold the sterring on full lock so it's no abused.

PAS belt probably needs doing

10/ When I switch the engine of there is a noise almost like a large belt slipping somewhere. Lasts half a second and sounds like a fan belt slip but much deeper.

Sure this isn't the blend motors on the Air-con closing - all aircon equipped BMWs have a rumbling noise on shut down.

Find a friendly dealer and they will do what they can for you. Re (10) I have just had a vibration damper replaced on auc warranty, mine's a (51 plate) 330d touring as well.

Well played!

1,The roof rails if they are corroded due to paint failure and not damage will be covered.Service manager may want to see it first.
2 + 5,maybe linked..This is a coding and adaption fault with the DDE..9/10 it is cured by a reprogram and a proper adaption run-not just a road test. They basically need to teach the gearbox when to slip and change.
3,The lever is something that would never be checked although technically should be..However as its under manufactorers warranty it should be replaced-who's to say it wasnt broken from the factory.
4,We have had a few issues of the xenon's failing,There is a technical bulletin about this for the tech's.If it has a certain make of xenon then the control unit and bulb are replaced-not the whole lamp.So make sure you mention the left/right lever as missing.
6,Common as muck with runflats and piolots. The tread wears in steps on the inner and outer edges-if you look straight at it each tread is higher at the front and worn at the back. This gives a flapping noise and when speeded up a rumble. This is only cured with tyres.
However we do sometimes get wheel bearings but very rarely.
7 + 10,Could be related, anyones guess what that might be without hearing the noises first hand-more than likely warranty.
8,Could be a barrel fault, although the stereo is powered for 16 minutes after the ignition off-so I would look at the stereo area first.
9,Check the power steering fluid level
