I'm interested to know this too.
How come the cd based systems have all been upgraded to full postcode but the "later" dvd based systems don't have PCodes's?
Also, I used to have a car with cd nav and once you typed in the destination, the screen would display a map with the route on it, you then said that it was good or not, at which p[oint it would reclaculate another route to the same destination.
The DVD 2005 system I have, just starts directing and I have to zoom the map all the way out manually to see the route its chosen. Is there no fast way to zoom in and out and move about the map to see which roads its chosen to use?

My 2004 DVD System was upgraded FOC by Cotswold BMW at a recent open day for BMWCC Members.
I then picked up a new 07-01 Disc on Ebay and it is now Post Code compatible to.
"Blackspider" was the technician who upgraded my system ... I'm sure he will be able to provide a more technical answer should he read this post.

If you have a Mk4 DVD then you should be fine. What is your head unit?
Who told you it couldn't be upgraded?
Have a look here: www.x5world.com/articles/all-bmw/navigation/9458-bmw-navigation-system-faq.html
You can diagnose what system you have and whther update is possible.

3 questions,
When buying a new DVD.
1) How does one know if their system needs the "High" or "Proffessional" version?
2) if I buy the latest 2007-01 DVD will it contain the latest V29 software and automatically update the system or do I need to do that separately?
3) Will the 2007-01 and V29 updates will allow full UK postcode input?
Thanks
Greg

I can only speak from the "High" system perspective ....
On point 1 .. Your current Disc should have High or Proffessional written upon it. If in doubt give your dealer a call and get them to confirm the type and the relevant part number for the new disc.
On point 2 .. The V29 update will be on a separate disc and will not necessarily come with the new Map disc depending upon where you buy from. My understanding is that all BMW dealers should be able to upgrade the software as they have been issued with it, though it is likely that many will wish to charge for this. Mine was done FOC by Cotswold BMW at Gloucester though when I purchased my 07-01 disc from ebay it did come with a V29 disc anyway.
On point 3 .. Based upon my experience, post codes input is possible with the V29 software / 07-01 disc installed.

X5 has got the proffessional DVD sat nav which runs high and prof discs...
The High disc is meant for the CD based sat nav systems, pre 2001 (dont have DVD writen on the nav unit).
The Prof disc is for all DVD systems.
The V29 software update is not on the map disc, this is a seperate update done at a dealer-its very quick and if you pick the right dealer, free. From this upgrade you can also get the perspective option which gives it an upto date look.
The postcode is available on the latest 07 disc.

Thanks BS.
I have the perspective option, which must come with my V27 software as that what I currently have.
I'm going to get a 07-1 prof. disk off fleabay and hope that its all I need.
I've done some reading, and most say they can't notice any real differences between the V27 and V29.1 software, other than a slightly more aggressive algorithm.
Thanks all.

So if I have the perspective option then I have the latest software update? Got an 06 disc at the moment and may go for an 07-1 disc on fleabay - seem to be going for about half the price of stealers...
You won't have the latest version.
If you hit menu > set then in the top right corner of the screen it will display the software version. The lasest V29.1 displays 91 as the last 2 digits. Mine says 70 iirc.
Can you wait till I've bought a disc from ebay before bidding against me please!

Most of the postcodes or later discs will run from software V26..
The perspective option from V26 onwards..
If you want to update the software it takes 6 minutes and runs from a disc which is inserted into the nav drive...If any one gets one from Flebay, then there is one thing you must do before putting the disc into the drive-Make sure the NAV is on in the display(not TV or Radio)if it isnt then its a new nav unit-the disc wont be released from the nav and the internal memory is wiped...Seen it happen loads

I recently bought a new SN DVD (for my 04 Z4) which had all the UK speed cameras on it, and the v29.1 upgrade came with it.
The v 29.1 disc only took a couple of minutes to install but when I loaded the dvd, no 3d, no cameras.
Defective disc, dvd, or operator do you think?

Took me a while to work it out - you have to select to show camera's. And each time you start up you have to turn camera's back on which is a little annoying, but I have a RoadAngel anyway. Most useful is the Postcode search!
