E34 clutch going?

My clutch has just started to play up, when I put my foot down all the way on the clutch pedal I can hear a grating noise & when pulling away it judders very badly.
Anyone know if that’s just the release bearing or the clutch too? (It doesn’t slip so I'm hoping not)


I know it’s silly to go to the trouble of getting all the way into to the release bearing & not changing the clutch anyway but I’ve just bought another car so have to sell the BM & the cost of a new clutch would seriously eat in to the value of a 89 535!

Why not go to a patrts specialist or junk yard and get your hands on a used clutch?
