What is it with BMW drivers being branded w@nkers/t@ssers? I love my BMW and the one before that, and the one before that!

They are the greatest manufacturer out there for everyman money...

I think it comes down to jelousy! But im getting more and more fed up with it!

Does it get on anyone elses nerves?
Rant over!

same with a Porsche (see the other thread).

At least I cannot hear people's comments anymore. My previous M3 convertible with roof down in a city centre had some interesting comments. Sod the lot of 'em!

BMWs unfortunately took over from Cavalier SRIs and Sierra Cosworths as the company car of choice for those who have a penchant for Squash and shouting at their secretaries. I really do believe that BMWs carry a huge stigma but it would be ridiculous to overlook buying one as a result of this - you should never judge a person by the clothes they wear. And, of course, the more nice people that carry the flag, the more opinion will change.

I know why.

Been driving my Cerb around, finding the roads quite slippery with water/wrong type of leaves. A few scarey moments in a high power rear engined car. Usually while following or being followed by a BMW.

Compared to the BMW I can't see well at night with the double whammy of poor headlights, and low seating height.

So having some BMW driver suddenly apply brakes gives me the problem of his braking being far better than mine, with his ABS gizmology, or up my chuff following with dazzling headlights, and so close to me that it feels unsafe. Complete dickhead.

Then I get outta me Cerb and back into my BMW. Braking is better vision is far superior, and I might add handling in dodgy conditions is also vastly better.

The longer I drive in the BMW the more confident I get in my cosy closetted environment, my safety area for braking can be less in perfect safety, I can take more liberties in the tight twisties in damp conditions, and before I know it I'm sitting up the chuff of some nerk in a flash sports car who's doing five miles a fortnight on a country lane, wondering why he bothered to buy a flash car if he's not prepared to actually drive at a sensible speed.

I've mulled this over quite a lot myself, as a serial BMW bigot. I really think that BMWs are palpably more fun to drive than most repmobiles and therefore encourage people out of numpty mindlessness and into spirited and enthusiastic driving.

A while ago, I had an Accord 2.0 auto as a loan car. It was a decent enough car, but it was no fun at all, and I found myself plodding around at 10MPH below the prevailing speed limit with my brain almost constantly in neutral, being surprised at how much faster and more assertively people were driving around me.

I don't think it's denigration of the quality of the vehicle, rather the perceived nature of the driver.

I think the problem is that there was a class of 30-something, male, suit-wearing E36/E46 3 Series drivers a couple of years back that rubbed everyone up the wrong way. It seems that they got their new company car and thought "I've got my beemer, I've arrived!", and then drove around like they owned the road, screwing everyone else over. Whilst this mantle seems to have moved onto the Audi A4 of late, the negative BMW image seems to have stuck. In fact when I'm courteous to other drivers, I always get a double-take as they're expecting to get shafted.

I think a lot of the proponents of the "BMW T@sser" theory also have a bit of a chip on their shoulder, as a BMW is a car within, or worse just beyond, the reach of a lot of motorists. So it's a lot harder to accept some idiot having one than said idiot having a Lambo, to owning which they never honestly aspire.

Definitely not down to jealousy. BMWs are absolutely commonplace these days and no big deal.

Sad fact is that many, many Beemer's are driven by knob jockey's in that typically thrusting, up your arse, faux intimidating fashion that seems to suggest you shouldn't be in 'their' roadspace.... unfortunately they seem to represent the majority which means us enthuisiasts who understand that they are actually excellent cars and great driving machines get tarred with the same brush. TBH the X5 is probably the consistantly worst (most aggresive/wanky) driven car I can think of.... superiority complex personified.

I have never, EVER, not once, found an X5 driving in such a way as to bother me.

I agree with him!

I am not stuck in a dead end job, I have a beautiful fiancee, she is a size 8.

Some of my friends own BMWs and as soon as they drive them they become wankers!

All the years that I have been driving the length and breadth of this fine country, I have found the most arrogant, stand-offish and selfish drivers are BMW drivers.

You clearly don't do many miles then.

Mind you, there don't seem to be half as many agressive X5 owners around as there used to be.

I wouldn't worry about it. I love my cars, they drive great, have been reliable and I couldn't care less what others think about any aspects of my taste in cars or lifestyle. Each to their own.

Well after covering 93k in my last BMW and 22k in current one i've come across some w@nkers in alot of other motoring brands!

For example i'm on the M6 cruising quietly along in inside lane and was catching a vehicle up so checked my mirror and signalled to move out when a suit wearing 40 something rep type person in his sh1te 407 speeds up to block me and sat at my rear quarter! So in the end i braked to let him go by to pull out at which he was laughing, what a tw4t in a 407 now i don't see many beemers behaving like that although i did feel like putting him off the road.

I also find at junctions i never get let out but it seems there is commeradary between us beemer drivers as i always let other BMW's out at junctions and they let me so it's all good.

I know they are common but a BMW at any age seems to have more impact than a newer audi etc, don't know why as i bought mine beacause i enjoy the communicative steering and rear wheel drive, bullet proof warrenty and fairly good reliability.

Two of my clients that are dentists always slagged beemers as they were overrated and tw4ts cars but i asked if they had ever been in one? answer is no, i said when you do you will change your mind!

Needless to say one has a 5 series after travelling as a passenger and thought how nice is this, and the other wants a 911.

I get glares all the time, specailly when it's clean but i used to get grief when i had my Subaru also.

Sorry to say some people are jelous.
