I've been using Eagle F1's lately but have just had a pair of Dunlop Sport 9000s(?) put on the rear as (a) they were in stock and it saved a return visit, and (b) the Eagle's do a lot of things well but I'm not that impressed with their longevity.

I commented on this at the time (and the stack of Toyo T1-Rs in the corner) and the opinion offered was that the Eagles were slightly softer and the Dunlops were a good all round bet. The Toyos in question are allegedly softer than the Eagles, although I've never tried them so can't comment fro personal experience. (All comments in relation to 255x35/18 for E46 rears.)

From my experience, Pilot Sport's are pretty good. Grippy and last for ages.

The Pilot Sports II's are lovely on my E36, and come very recommended on the enthusiast's forums.

I've heard conflicting stories on the F1's in so far as they don't suit the BMWs all that well, however I can't comment personally. However Toyo T1R's on my FWD Golf worked really well.

As for R888's, you'd be mad to run them on a daily driver, they are road legal track day tyres, and bloody lethal in the wet. Also, they wouldn't last long I'd hazard.

I'd go for Michelin Pilot Sport II's.

Dunlop Sport 9000 work best on my e39 (longevity, handling and road noise).

Eagle F1 (must be GSD3) are best on my wife's golf.

I've always used Michelin PS2s and these are great but my latest car came with new 17" Goodyear F1s all round. These feel very sticky in all conditions, if anything a little bit soft, low road noise, but they tramline like buggery. The car also had a KDS at the time so I suspect it's the tread pattern.

My other motor has Toyo Proxes on it. I have been so impressed with these.
